COMMENTARIUS IN DISTINCTIONEM XXIII.
De Sacramento extremae unctionis.
Praeter praemissa est etiam aliud Sacramentum, scilicet unctio infirmorum.
DIVISIO TEXTUS.
Supra determinatum est de quatuor Sacramentis. Haec est quinta pars, in qua agitur de quinto, scilicet de unctione extrema. Dividitur autem haec pars in duas. In prima agitur de huius Sacramenti institutione. In secunda de instituti dispensatione. Et hoc, ibi: Quaerunt aliqui, si hoc Sacramentum.
Prima pars duas continet. In prima distinguit hanc unctionem ab aliis. In secunda determinat causas suae institutionis, scilicet a quo institutum et propter quid et in qua materia, et hoc ibi: Hoc autem Sacramentum unctionis infirmorum etc.
Similiter secunda pars principalis duas habet, secundum duas opiniones, quas ponit circa frequentationem sive iterationem Sacramenti. Et primum modum ponit ibi: Quaerunt aliqui etc. Secundum vero modum ponit ibi: Quidam vero de omni Sacramento.
TRACTATIO QUAESTIONUM.
Ad intelligentiam praesentis distinctionis secundum duo, quae Magister determinat de unctionis Sacramento, duo principaliter quaeruntur.
Primo quaeritur de ipso quantum ad ipsius institutionem.
Secundo, quantum ad usum sive dispensationem.
Quantum ad primum quaeruntur quatuor. Primo, de causa eius finali. Secundo, de efficiente. Tertio, de materiali. Et quarto, de formali.

COMMENTARY ON DISTINCTION XXIII.
On the Sacrament of extreme unction.
Besides the foregoing, there is also another Sacrament, namely the anointing of the sick.
DIVISION OF THE TEXT.
Above, the four Sacraments have been determined. This is the fifth part, in which the fifth is treated, namely extreme unction. Now this part is divided into two. In the first, this Sacrament's institution is treated. In the second, the dispensation of what has been instituted. And this, at: Quaerunt aliqui, si hoc Sacramentum ("Some ask whether this Sacrament").
The first part contains two [members]. In the first he distinguishes this unction from the others. In the second he determines the causes of its institution, namely by whom it was instituted and for what purpose and in what matter, and this at: Hoc autem Sacramentum unctionis infirmorum etc. ("But this Sacrament of the anointing of the sick").
Likewise the second principal part has two [members], according to the two opinions which he sets out concerning the frequenting or repetition of the Sacrament. And the first manner he sets at: Quaerunt aliqui etc. ("Some ask"). But the second manner he sets at: Quidam vero de omni Sacramento ("But certain ones concerning every Sacrament").
TREATMENT OF THE QUESTIONS.
For the understanding of the present distinction, according to the two things which the Master determines concerning the Sacrament of unction, two things are principally asked.
First it is asked about it in respect to its institution.
Second, in respect to its use or dispensation.
As to the first, four things are asked. First, about its final cause. Second, about the efficient [cause]. Third, about the material [cause]. And fourth, about the formal [cause].
