## COMMENTARIUS IN DISTINCTIONEM VIII.

Pars II.

TEXTUM MAGISTRI VIDE SUPRA PAG. 178.

DIVISIO TEXTUS.

Utraque pars habet duas.

Circa primum quaeruntur duo.

Primo quaeritur de forma verbi super panem.

Secundo, de forma verbi super vinum.

## COMMENTARY ON DISTINCTION VIII.

Part II.

On the things that integrate the Sacrament of the Eucharist, namely the word and the element.

Now the form is that which he himself there set forth, etc.

FOR THE TEXT OF THE MASTER SEE ABOVE, PAGE 178.

DIVISION OF THE TEXT.

Above the Master treated of the things antecedent to the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Here he treats of the things that integrate it, which are two, namely the word and the element or visible sign; and this part has two parts. In the first he treats of the form of the word. In the second, of the signification or content1 of the sign, at: Now, what the Sacrament is there.

Each part has two. For in the first he determines, first, what the form is. Second, how it is to be used, namely whether as it was instituted with respect to time: and this he does at: Where it is worthy of consideration.

Likewise the second part, in which he treats of the ground of signifying, has two. In the first he determines what is the sign there and what is signified. In the second he determines the likeness and the fittingness of the one to the other, at: Furthermore that visible species.

TREATMENT OF THE QUESTIONS.

For the understanding of this part, according to the two things which the Master determines here, two things are principally asked.

First it is asked about the form of the word in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Second, about the signification of the Sacrament itself.

Concerning the first, two things are asked.

First it is asked about the form of the word over the bread.

Second, about the form of the word over the wine.

Apparatus Criticus
  1. 1
Edd. cum paucis codd. convenientia. Utraque lectio defendi potest. Inferius post forma cod.
The editions, with a few codices, read convenientia ("content/agreement"). Either reading can be defended. Lower down, after forma, codex B adds: and of its power or efficacy, and thus in the second place the ground of the institution with respect to time is touched on, which is twofold: the first is the cessation of the legal Sacraments; the second, the imprinting of that memory upon the disciples; thirdly an incidental matter is removed, at: But not thereafter.
