Quomodo ignis damnatorum corpora et daemones animasque separatas cruciat.

Divisio textus.
Supra determinavit Magister, quanta et qualia sunt resurgentium corpora. In hac parte determinat, quomodo damnatorum corpora ab igne sunt cremabilia, et tamen sunt immortalia. Et quoniam ille ignis cremat corpora, cremat daemones, cremat etiam animas separatas; ideo pars ista habet tres.
In prima determinat, qualiter cruciet corpora. In secunda, qualiter cruciet daemones, et hoc ibi: Quaeri autem solet, an daemones etc. In tertia vero, qualiter cruciet animas, ibi: Cum1 autem constet, animas etc. In ultimo vero capitulo determinat, utrum resurgant monstra, ibi: Illud etiam investigari oportet etc.
Tractatio quaestionum.
Ad intelligentiam huius partis quaeritur de passibilitate damnatorum. Quaeritur igitur, qualiter patiuntur. Et circa hoc tria quaeruntur.
Primo quaeritur de punitione, si est.
Secundo quaeritur, quid est.
Tertio, qualiter agit.

How the fire of the damned torments bodies and demons and separated souls.

Above, the Master determined how great and of what kind are the bodies of those who rise. In this part he determines how the bodies of the damned are burnable by fire, and yet are immortal. And since that fire burns bodies, burns demons, and also burns separated souls, therefore this part has three [members].
In the first he determines how it torments bodies. In the second, how it torments demons, and this here: It is usually asked, whether demons etc. In the third, how it torments souls, here: When1 however it is established, souls etc. In the last chapter he determines whether monsters rise, here: This too must be investigated etc.
Treatment of the questions.
For the understanding of this part, inquiry is made concerning the passibility of the damned. It is asked, therefore, in what manner they suffer. And concerning this, three things are asked.
First it is asked concerning punishment, whether it is.
Second it is asked, what it is.
Third, how it acts.
Concerning the first, two things are asked.
First it is asked, whether hell exists.
Second, where it is.
