De partibus subiectivis poenitentiae.
Praedictis vero adiiciendum est, quod tribus modis agitur poenitentia.

DIVISIO TEXTUS.
Supra egit Magister de partibus poenitentiae integralibus. Hic agit de subiectivis, quae sunt poenitentiae1 ante baptismum, et post baptismum de mortalibus, et tertio de venialibus. Dividitur autem haec pars in duas partes secundum duo capitula. In prima dividit poenitentiam per trimembrem differentiam. In secunda vero specialiter tradit modum poenitentiae de venialibus, ibi: Quae autem pro venialibus sit satisfactio sufficiens.
Prima pars duas habet. In prima ponit divisionem. In secunda confirmat per auctoritates, ibi: Tres sunt actiones poenitentiae etc.
Similiter secunda pars dividitur in duas. In prima assignat sufficientem satisfactionem. In secunda vero epilogat, ibi: Ex his aliisque praemissis etc.
TRACTATIO QUAESTIONUM.
Ad intelligentiam huius partis secundum triplicem poenitentiam, quam distinguit Magister in littera2, tria principaliter quaeruntur.
Primo quaeritur de poenitentia ante baptismum.
Secundo, de poenitentia post baptismum, quae est de mortalibus.
Tertio, de poenitentia, quae est de venialibus.

Primo quaeritur, utrum oporteat poenitere et dolere pro originali peccato.

Part II.
On the subjective parts of penance.
But to the things already said it must be added that penance is performed in three ways.

DIVISION OF THE TEXT.
Above, the Master treated of the integral parts of penance. Here he treats of the subjective parts, which are: the penance1 before baptism, and after baptism the penance for mortal sins, and thirdly the penance for venial sins. Now this part is divided into two parts according to two chapters. In the first he divides penance by a threefold distinction. In the second he specifically sets forth the mode of penance for venial sins, there: But what satisfaction for venial sins is sufficient.
The first part has two [sections]. In the first he sets down the division. In the second he confirms it by authorities, there: There are three actions of penance, etc.
Likewise the second part is divided into two. In the first he assigns sufficient satisfaction. In the second he sums up, there: From these and the other things premised, etc.
TREATMENT OF THE QUESTIONS.
For the understanding of this part according to the threefold penance which the Master distinguishes in the text2, three things are principally asked.
First it is asked concerning the penance before baptism.
Second, concerning the penance after baptism, which is for mortal sins.
Third, concerning the penance which is for venial sins.

On penance before baptism.
Concerning the first, two things are asked.
First it is asked whether one ought to repent and grieve for original sin.
Second, whether one approaching baptism with an actual [sin] must, before the Sacrament of penance, receive [it].
